In 2006, LG introduced an innovative appliance based on a standard monitor, called the Monitor+ which allowed users to play DVD movies in a larger screen size (up to 32") without having to replace their monitors or purchase new sets of equipment such as DVD players and speakers. On January 14, 2009 LG Electronics announced that it would sell Haier brand refrigerators in select U.S. markets beginning in June 2009. The new Haier-branded refrigerators will be manufactured in the same assembly facilities as other LG models, and both Haier and LG products would be sold concurrently in the U.S. market.

With this agreement, LG Electronics continued to expand its presence in the U.S market by opening up a new distribution channel for its home appliances business, which is already very successful in the U.S., particularly in the premium appliance segment where LG Electronics leads all competitors with a 34% share according to NPD data. This agreement also supports LG’s strategy of continuing to deliver high quality products at competitive prices through multiple distribution channels around the globe. Haier is a household name that is very successful in China and is one of the most trusted brands in China in terms of appliance quality and reliability.

In 2010, a professional report on the performance of LG Electronics products analyzed by JD Power and Associates, showed that LG had gained an outstanding rank among all brands around the world for overall reliability (which includes cooling and ice-making).
